The Starting Line

When running any race, one must know both from where they are starting and to where they need to go. I believe that these rules apply to the pursuit of wellness as well. Today, my wife asked me, “what is wellness to you”? Going along with the analogy, she was asking about the finish line. How will I know when I have reached peak wellness?

I reflected upon this and, for me, wellness is thriving in all aspects of my life. I want to feel like I am achieving at the highest level in all 8 wellness dimensions and to feel like, when #lifehappens, I am capable of taking it in stride and achieving harmony once again. Referring back to my Juggling the 8 Wellness Balls visual, I would picture a future vision of myself juggling them gracefully, and, should I falter, I can smile and laugh and get back to it!

While I have a vague vision of the ending, I only have faint ideas about how to get there. But what I do know, is that I must do it through intentional action. As Andy Warhol said, “They always say time changes things, but you actually have to change them yourself.”  Rather than jumping in and trying to change everything at once, I want to build a strategy of change from Point A (today) to Point Z (a weller, brighter, future!). To build a strategy, I need numbers. Just as in business, I need a way to measure the changes that I am making over time to know whether I am heading in the right direction.

In the next few days, I plan to systematically measure my wellness using the best techniques that I can find online. I will be searching for affordable (i.e. free), science backed quizzes or exercises. I will also be trying to create my own fun visualization of this information so that I feel engaged and motivated to update them regularly as part of a regular life check-in! I will also make anything I create available to anyone who comes across this post and is interested.

Let’s keep striving well together!
